French Onion Soup

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 4 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 3 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 slices toasted thick, crusty bread
  • 4 slices of provolone or gruyere

Directions

  • Heat dutch oven or stock pot over medium heat. Melt butter then add onions, pepper, and garlic powder. Saute for 7-8 minutes until tender.
  • Add beef broth, worcestershire sauce, and salt to taste. Bring to a simmer and cover for 10 minutes.
  • Ladle soup into a bowl then top with bread and slice of cheese. Place under broiler until cheese is melted and golden
